PAWTUCKET — December 4, 2023 at 1:32 pm PST — Playskool, a leading children’s toy brand, today announced the launch of “The ABCs of Misinformation,” a new toy series designed to teach children from a young age how to identify tactics of misinformation being used against them.

In today’s digital age, children are constantly bombarded with information from a variety of sources, not all of which are reliable. Misinformation can have a negative impact on children’s understanding of the world around them and can lead to anxiety, fear, and even violence.

The “ABCs of Misinformation” toy series is designed to help children become more critical consumers of information. The toys use a variety of age-appropriate activities to teach children how to identify misinformation, such as fake news, misleading images, and propaganda.

The toy series includes three product lines designed for different age groups:

  • Preschool (ages 3-5): The preschool line includes a board game, puzzles, and storybooks that teach children about the importance of checking sources and not believing everything they see online.
  • Early elementary school (ages 6-8): The early elementary school line includes a card game, a coding kit, and an app that teach children how to spot fake news, misleading images, and propaganda.
  • Late elementary school (ages 9-11): The late elementary school line includes a debate game, a research project kit, and a social media simulation that teaches children how to have productive conversations about controversial topics and how to be responsible social media users.

“We believe that it is important to teach children about misinformation from a young age,” said Roberta Thomson, Executive Vice President and Chief Communications Officer for Hasbro, the parent company of Playskool. “Our goal with this toy series is to empower children with the skills they need to become critical consumers of information and to make informed decisions about their lives.”
